Santiam Heritage Foundation will make the Charles and Martha Brown House and grounds available for purposes of small group events. Two large parlor rooms, a dining room, a greeting room, the outside porches and the grounds are available for rent. Kitchen facilities include a microwave, an electric range, sink, refrigerator, dishwasher and counter space with wall outlets. Small washroom facilities are available on the first floor. The upstairs is unavailable at this time. There are no ADA accommodations.
A potential renter must be willing to take the responsibility of caring for the house, grounds and furnishings just as the Santiam Heritage Foundation does.
A Santiam Heritage Foundation staff member will be on hand at all times during the rental period.
A limited number of chairs and tables are available.
Capacity: Up to 50, depending on the set-up with just chairs or chairs and tables.
Rates and Reservations:
Reservations should be requested a minimum of two weeks in advance of your event. The first 3 hours are $40 per hour including set up and clean up time. Each additional hour is $25.
To reserve the House and/or grounds, contact us at email@example.com and make an appointment to tour the facility and sign the rental contract.
Payment of a $300 refundable security deposit and at least 1/3 of the total rental fee are due at reservation with payment of the balance due prior to your event.
Charges may be deducted from your refundable security deposit to cover additional time beyond your contracted rental time, property damage or excessive clean up by SHF representatives.
The renter will provide all supplies, utensils, plates, cups and paper products.
To protect our historic wooden buildings against fire, smoking is not allowed in or outside the house or the storage building or anywhere on the grounds.
No pets of any kind are allowed in the buildings with the exception of service animals. All service animals inside the buildings must be wearing their official service vest at all times. Dogs are permitted on leash only on the lawn and any waste must be bagged and disposed of in the trash can.
- Brown House is located in a residential area of Stayton with close neighbors who are supportive of the house and grounds. It is our responsibility to make sure they are not disturbed by any activity taking place at the house. By City ordinance no loud music or noise is permitted after 10 PM.
- Special arrangements must be made for alcohol service and is limited to beer, wine or champagne. Hard liquor is not permitted at this time. See additional information under “Insurance”
Everything you bring to the Brown House property must be removed at the end of your rental period. We appreciate your leaving the Brown House and grounds as you found them.
All cleaning is your responsibility.
Supplies are available for sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and wiping surfaces.
Make sure all surfaces are free of spots from refreshments.
All recyclable materials must be placed in their respective bins.
All decorations must be approved by the Santiam Heritage Foundation staff.
No tape, tacks or staples are allowed on any wood surfaces, walls, ceilings or floors. A picture rail is available in the front parlors.
Flowers should be arranged off-site in appropriately sized vases. Care should be taken to avoid water contact with woodwork or furnishings.
No candles are permitted. Battery operated tea lights may be used.
Prior to your event documented proof of Personal Liability Insurance coverage in the amount of $500,000 showing the specific date of your event must be provided to the Santiam Heritage Foundation. Coverage must name the Santiam Heritage Foundation and their respective officers, directors, agents, and volunteers as “additional insured’s.”
Coverage must be in the form of a “Certificate of Insurance” coverage.
If you plan to have alcohol at your event, you can employ a licensed alcohol server and obtain your own “Host Liquor Liability” insurance or employ a caterer who carries this insurance and provides a licensed alcohol server at your event.
If you employ a licensed alcohol server not connected to a caterer, you must also obtain “Host Liquor Liability” insurance showing the specific date and naming Santiam Heritage Foundation as “additional insured.”
If you cancel more than 2 weeks prior to your event both your security deposit and rental fee will be returned.
If you cancel less than 2 weeks prior to your event your security deposit and only two thirds of your total rental fee will be returned.
